ASPHO Diversity Statement
Approved December 3, 2021
The American Society of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology (ASPHO) views diversity, equity, and inclusion as fundamental values that strengthen the subspecialty’s body of knowledge and improve the care and experiences of patients and their families. As a professional membership society dedicated to pediatric hematology/oncology subspecialists and other practitioners, ASPHO welcomes and embraces the broad experiences, backgrounds, and knowledge of the full professional community. ASPHO will continue to promote a diverse workforce for current and future specialists based on inclusion and equity regardless of race/ethnicity, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, ability, career stage, specialty, institutional size, age, or other attributes. ASPHO strives for its leadership to authentically represent member perspectives and backgrounds, and to cultivate diversity and inclusion within the organization at all levels, including governance, program, and policy development.
ASPHO is committed to supporting its members in their efforts to deliver high-quality care, as they work towards healthcare equity and against the barriers that diminish outcomes and life experiences for underrepresented patients and their families. ASPHO’s mission of promoting optimal care for children, adolescents, and young adults with blood disorders and cancer can only be fully achieved when every child has access to healthcare.
With values-based governance and programming focusing on diversity, equity, and inclusion, ASPHO will support, and improve, the shared experiences of pediatric subspecialists and patient population.
In 2020, the Society published a statement condemning racism and supporting healthcare equity. Information on additional Society diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) efforts can be found at aspho.org/diversity.
